Herbert Gustave Sommerfeldt,age 81, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at his home in rural Montello. He was born on May 18, 1923 in the Township of Mecan, the son of Otto Rudolph Sommerfeldt and Dora (Ponto) Sommerfeldt. He married Agnes Ruth Torweihe on February 4, 1949. Agnes preceded him in death on February 12, 1979. Herbert married Margie Kenitz on October 16, 1985 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Princeton. He worked at the Square D Company in Milwaukee for 35 years. While living in the Milwaukee area, he was a Bible study teacher and a member of the choir at the Lake Drive Baptist Church in Bayside. He was called "the preacher" at Square D because he was always telling people to be a witness for Christ. When his children were younger they all took turns reading Bible passages at dinner time. While living in rural Montello, Herbert was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Princeton. He is survived by his wife Margie of Montello; 5 children Ronald Sommerfeldt of Minnesota, Barbara Schugert of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Roger (Beverly) Sommerfeldt of Mequon, Beverly (Kenneth) Langnes of Princeton, Richard Sommerfeldt of Ft. Meyers, FL.; 3 stepchildren Dawn (David) Peterson of Wautoma, Jon (Gertrude) Polcyn of Montello, Jim Polcyn of Chicago; 14 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 step great great grandchildren; brother Victor Sommerfeldt of Montello; sister Elizabeth (Al) Mutter of Milwaukee; special aunt Ruth Sommerfeldt of Muskego; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Bernice, brother Elmer, 2 sisters Esther and Viola. A funeral service for Herbert Sommerfeldt will take place on Monday, August 30, at 1:00 P.M., with visitation starting at 11:00, from the Emmanuel United Methodist Chruch in Princeton with Rev. Tony Fuller officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Princeton City Cemetery.
